Rising Cost of Funerals

Protecting Your Family from the Ever Rising Cost of Funerals

Like most things in the modern world the cost of funerals has risen in the last few years. Of course, it’s something that many of us don’t want to think about until we absolutely have to. We’d rather live life to the full rather than sit at our laptops trying to compare funeral plans for something we hope won’t happen for quite a while.

Protecting yourself and, more importantly, your family from the rising cost for funerals can make sure loved ones aren’t worrying about how to make ends meet when your time finally comes. There are several ways to do this including paying a one off amount straight away that is then invested until the day of your funeral.

Whichever funeral plan you choose, you will need to make sure that everything you want is covered. A simple, low cost funeral plan that includes collection and care of the deceased and standard coffin could cost in the region of £1,500 whilst something more involved such as putting on limousines and providing coffin bearers could be a couple of thousand more.

Choosing the Right Funeral Plan

The good news is that you can easily search online for the right plan for you. Like any other service it is a good idea to compare funeral plans and make sure you find that one that is suited to your budget and your needs. It’s not often the cheapest that is the best and you might want to check on a few other things before you part with your hard earned cash.

  • First check their website and see if it is easy to use and understand. You want to be sure you know exactly what you are getting for your money so that your loved ones don’t have to worry about it once you have passed away. If the company has taken time to produce an easy to understand website that tells you all you need to know then the chances are they will provide the service you are looking for.
  • The company should be easy to contact and have a good customer service. Of course, it’s not always the case that a great looking website is backed up by an organisation that cares. If you want to make doubly sure your funeral plan is the right one then give them a call and have a chat – you can tell a lot about a business by simply talking to them direct.
  • Check for a company where you can update your plan if you want to. You might only want a low cost funeral plan to begin with but may want to add extras such as guidance for your family once you have gone or a more formal funeral procession from your home.
  • Don’t feel rushed or forced into buying any funeral plan. Once you have decided on the company that you want to handle your service then give yourself a little while to sit back and think. There’s that old adage of decide in haste, repent at leisure. If a company tries to offer you limited time offers then that may be a sign they are more interested in your money than providing a good funeral service.

At Assist we make it easy for you to compare our different offers from low cost funeral plans to our gold and platinum packages. We’re always on hand to offer advice about what is the best option for you to help cover the cost of your funeral.
